Copa Semi Finals Finalised

The last four is now known, as the final two semis are completed.

Barcelona will face Villarreal in the last four of the Copa del Rey, after El Submarino Amarillo beat Getafe 1-0 in their second leg and 2-0 overall. And it could be an all Barcelona final, as Espanyol take on Athletic Bilbao in the other semi final.

Sergio Gonzalez’s team held on at Sevilla, losing the second leg 1-0, but winning 3-2 on aggregate. Athletic Bilbao overcame Malaga 1-0 on the night – and on aggregate – thanks to an Aritz Aduriz goal three minutes after half time.

Barça and Athletic are the two most successful sides in the history of the Copa, with twenty six and twenty three wins respectively, and both have been in thirty six finals (only Real Madrid have appeared in more – thirty nine). For Espanyol, this represents their first potential final since 2006, and they have four tournament wins to their name. Villarreal are in the last four for the first time ever.

The two semi finals take place on Wednesday, February 11th, with the second legs on Wednesday, March 4th.

The fixtures are:

First Leg: Wednesday February 11th

7pm – FC Barcelona v Villarreal

9pm – Athletic Bilbao v Espanyol

Second Leg: Wednesday March 4th

7pm – Espanyol v Athletic Bilbao

9pm – Villarreal v FC Barcelona
